Not Many Chocies

So the options grow few and far between.  The Dr. cut straight forward to his view that we should start hormone ‘therapy’ asap. He was also straightforward that we were looking at a matter of struggling to keep my life long and with quality.  No Dr.  has mentioned cure. None. Even Dr. Bob, my favorite PCP has been pretty straightforward so there are hard decisions. Bottom line, barring a huge miracle, my life will be limited based on miracles and advances in cures.  My inclination is hormone therapy.  Thoughts?

Here's an interesting link about hormone and chemo therapy combined. Interesting comments too, especially one from a guy named John Sharp who has survived 12 years. Anyway, interesting reading that shows there IS hope.

  2. Scott,
Of course a very hard decision but from what I've heard hormone therapy has quite a few very unpleasant side effects. Hot flashes, loss of libido, weight gain, etc. A lot to consider. Basically, from what I understand, they turn you into a woman by lowering your testosterone level. No good choices.

  3. My spouse started hormone therapy on 3/4/14 with leuprolide acetate/bicalutamide cocktail plus zoledronic acid infusions every four weeks. PSA last Friday was 1.67, down from 17.4 on 3/4. That number made us very happy...it's a whole new world for us. I hope docs put you on Firmagon or such asap plus the bicalutamide etc. Everything I read about advanced disease says the more aggressive, the more aggressive you should be with treatment, so maybe ADT3? Also, like the link suggested above about the docataxel treatment.

  4. I just don't know what to say Scott. I'm shocked with every post I read. I love you to pieces, my old friend, and am constantly thinking and praying for you and your recovery. I know you will consider all options that are best for you and that you continue to keep hope and faith as we all are doing.
